Today, many of our sporting clients have been letting the many hundreds of thousands of people who play their sports know that they can now order Olympic tickets from the London2012 site. And reminding them that they can only pay with a VISA card. This sort of thing.
So I got to thinking. Why not also give those same people a link to sign up to a VISA credit card that will also earn something for the sport? They are called affiliate links, and in a nutshell the selling company (ie, the credit card company) pays a commission for each person who signs up. To explain, if you were to click on this affiliate link and sign up to a credit card, Martin Lewis's MoneySavingExpert site would make a few bob. Why not Nemisys? Because I'm not that cheeky!
It's not "core business" for a sports National Governing Body, but with zero risk why not make the ask while your players are thinking of you as they book their tickets? Heck - you could even offer to hypothecate the money towards your Olympic team, or grass roots projects post-Olympics if that will resonate better!
What to do:
- Sign up to an affiliate scheme (www.cj.com, www.tradedoubler.com, there are others too)
- A bit of faff filling in forms with bank accounts and tax declarations
- Then grab your advert (or link text like the one above) and paste it on to your site
Good luck, and if you make a fortune do share your good news in the comments below!
