One of the most common questions we're asked is how a site can perform better in search engines - the discipline is called search engine optimisation, or SEO for short.
SEO is the sort of thing where you can always 'do more', and so it's hard to know when to stop or what NOT to suggest! And so on 1 level I could give you a list of 100 things you could do to improve your SEO - whoever you are and however much effort you've already put in.
But for now let's keep things simple, and look at the content on your web site. I bet my reputation that for all the video site maps and keyword-stuffed domain names you cost up, you'd get better value for money by following our simple content checklist for your web site. And I also bet that in taking this approach your visitors will also find your site more relevant and engaging, so those people who do visit your site will 'convert' better.
But the proof's in the pudding, so I took as an example one of our clients who works in a highly competitive sector where people are using those keyword-stuffed domain names and paying other SEO specialists £100s per month on retainers.
The example below shows how 20 minutes work (and part of that was documenting their previous ranking!) a couple of Saturdays ago impacted their search rankings with Google.
- Key phrase: football crm
- Previous ranking: 27th
- New ranking: 2nd (of 7 million+)
- Key phrase: football crm strategy
- Previous ranking: 9th
- New ranking: 1st (of 128,000)
20 minutes with this little checklist - have a go once a week for a month and see if the results are as stunning as this?
